General Information
The Computing Department is a well-resourced and successful department.
The Department is equipped with the latest hardware and software to deliver the highest standards and skills. The Department has 3 specialist suites containing the latest specification workstations as well as a wide range of up to date software. In addition each suite has broadband Internet provision, colour laser printers, a scanner and access to digital stills and video cameras. Students have access to the schools Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) both in school and at home. The department also has Raspberry Pi computers available for programming and exploring the nature of computer hardware.
Key Stage 3
Key Stage 4
At present students can opt to study a range of Computing and ICT courses during Key Stage 4:
- GCSE Computing – This course focuses on how a computer works and how to actually write computer programs to control the computer hardware.
- OCR Cambridge Nationals in ICT – This is a vocational course that compares equally to GCSE but with greater emphasis on practical coursework.

Key Stage 5
Students can continue their ICT career path into KS5 by studying AS and A2 level ICT. It is also hoped to offer a Computing or Computer Science qualification in future for those students who wish to follow a computing or programming route within the subject area.
