Curriculum

At St Bede’s, we have a passionate commitment to the entitlement of every young person to achieve their personal best.
We believe that we must provide an education for our students which prepares them to embrace the many challenges of the 21st Century. Curriculum

Therefore, we continue to develop a personalised curriculum which enables each student to ‘play to their strengths’ in terms of their individual aptitudes, abilities, interests, experiences and preferred learning styles. All of this is achieved within our overall commitment to an exciting, challenging, broad and balanced curriculum.

At Key Stage 3, all students follow the National Curriculum.

At Key Stage 4, students follow the most appropriate ‘pathway’ which consists of a core curriculum of English, Maths, RE, Science, PE and PHSE. In addition, a choice of optional subjects, including a range of Vocational GCSEs, is available which currently include:

Art, Business Studies, ICT, Engineering, Health and Social Care, French, Spanish, History, Geography, Physical Education, Drama, Music, Resistant Materials, Graphics and Food Technology.

All pupils in Y10 spend two weeks on work experience and further opportunities of the world of work are available, in conjunction with outside agencies, for those students who would benefit from a more vocational approach.

In recent years, some pupils, following a successful application and interview, have been selected to specialise in Engineering by following units from the Young Apprenticeships course as well continuing to study the Vocational GCSE in Engineering.
