The Pope John Paul II Award available to Sixth-Formers
This aims to provide volunteers with new skills and respect for the people in their local parishes. The award is important to encourage young people to appreciate religion as something to take an active part in and experience content through serving others. Volunteers will take part in work suited to them in their local parish and will achieve an award having completed the mission. This could stand out well on a University application. Useful volunteering could range from reading at Mass or flower-arranging behind the scenes. Recently a select number of students were able to witness the introduction to the award at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Newcastle. The visit was an introduction and warm welcome for the schools in the local area.
We have 13 students (12 from Yr12 and 1 from Yr13) taking part in the award, this is a remarkable number as there are only 80 students or so taking part across the Diocese.
